David Alan McDowell, 73, of Southern Shores, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011. Born in Springfield, Ohio, David lived in Williamsburg, VA, for twenty-five years and resided on the Outer Banks for the past thirteen years. He was a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. A graduate of Christopher Newport University with a BA degree, David worked for United Airlines, New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, Treasure Coast Community Aids Network, and Pride in North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin K. and Jessie B. McDowell and his brother Charles McDowell. David is survived by his partner of forty-six years, James Edward “Jim” Warren of Southern Shores; sister-in-law, Mary Kay McDowell, of Pompano Beach, FL; niece Kimberly McDowell, of Rochester, NY; niece Kristi Scallin (Eric) and great-niece, Kaitlyn and great-nephew, Ryan of Oakland Park, FL.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, 731 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC. With Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
